In God's wildness lies the hope of the world: the great, fresh, unblighted, unredeemed wilderness. The galling harness of civilization drops off, and wounds heal ere we are aware.

Beaver Creek Blue Mountain Hike

Saturday, August 14   8:00 am to 5:30 pm

The northeast portion of Beaver Creek Proposed Wilderness, so close to Colorado Springs, but rarely visited by humans, is often the haunt of deer, elk, and bear. Come climb Blue Mountain for far-ranging views on this moderate, sometimes off-trail, seven mile hike with gain of 1,000 feet, sponsored by Pikes Peak Sierra Club, Wild Connections, and Central CO Wilderness Coalition. Well- behaved, leashed dogs allowed. We will learn about the wilderness future of this and other nearby wild areas. For more information and to register, contact John Stansfield, 303-660-5849 or e-mail jorcstan@juno.com by 5 PM, August 13.

Grape Creek Wilderness Protection Hike--RESCHEDULED from winter.

Saturday, Sept 11   8:00 am to 6:00 pm

In the (usually) sunny, dry banana belt southwest of Royal Gorge, a section of the Grape Creek Proposed Wilderness exists close to mining activity and OHV roads. Help Pikes Peak Sierra Club, Wild Connections, and Central Colorado Wilderness Coalition assess and protect these wildlands. Our five-mile, easy to moderate hike, gaining a maximum of 500 feet, will be mostly on road and trail. Along the way, also find out about other nearby Wild Ten proposed wildernesses. For more information and to register, contact trip leader John Stansfield, 303-660-5849 or e-mail jorcstan@juno.com by 5 pm, September 11.
