colorado wilderness bill

In God's wildness lies the hope of the world: the great, fresh, unblighted, unredeemed wilderness. The galling harness of civilization drops off, and wounds heal ere we are aware.

Outings

Saturday, March 27   8:00 am to 5:30 pm

Grape Creek Wilderness Protection Hike

In the (usually) sunny, dry banana belt southwest of Royal Gorge, a section of the
Grape Creek Proposed Wilderness exists close to mining activity and OHV roads. Help Pikes
Peak Sierra Club, Wild Connections, and Central Colorado Wilderness Coalition assess and
protect these wildlands.  Our five-mile, easy to moderate hike, gaining a maximum of 500
feet, will be mostly on road and trail, occasionally through shallow snow. Along the way,
also find out about other nearby Wild Ten proposed wildernesses. Well-behaved, leashed
dogs allowed. For more information and to register, contact trip leader John Stansfield,
303-660-5849 or e-mail jorcstan@juno.com by 6 PM, March 26.

Saturday, May 8   8:00 am--5:30 pm

Beaver Creek Love Your Mother Earth Hike

With or without your mother along, spring is a great time to visit the many beautiful
valleys of the Beaver Creek Proposed Wilderness.  Come explore the little-visited East
Fork of Eightmile Creek on a moderate six mile hike with elevation gain of 600 feet,
sponsored by Pikes Peak Sierra Club Group, Wild Connections, and Central Colorado
Wilderness Coalition.  We will learn about the wilderness future of this and other nearby
wild areas.  For more information and to register, contact John Stansfield, 303-660-5849 or e-mail jorcstan@juno.com by 6 PM May 7.

Sunday, June 6   8:00 am to 6:00 pm

Cooper Mountain Wilderness Quality Survey Hike

The third in a series of exploratory hikes to wilderness candidates beyond the Wild Ten.
Cooper Mountain roadless area lies just west of Phantom Canyon and the Beaver Creek
Proposed Wilderness. Come help determine if the area's wild values are worth preserving
on this moderately strenuous 8-mile, occasionally off-trail hike with 1400-foot elevation
gain, sponsored by Pikes Peak Sierra Club Group, Wild Connections, and Central Colorado
Wilderness Coalition. Also learn about nearby Wild Ten and other proposed wildernesses.
Well-behaved, leashed dogs allowed. For more information and to register, contact trip leader John Stansfield, 303-660-5849 or e-mail jorcstan@juno.com by 6 PM, June 5
